Described by Reuters 'Where to Ski' as a charming, unspoiled French village with reliable snow', Les Contamines-Montjoie is only 1 1/4 hours from Geneva airport. It is a beautiful family orientated resort with most of its surrounding area being a National Park. The village centre has all you need with 13 restaurants, 2 supermarkets, numerous bars and local tourist office, but it still maintains its village atmosphere.
The ski area boasts magnificent views over Mont Blanc. It has a maximum height of 2457m, 24 lifts, 19km of cross-country 9km of rackets/pedsetrian routes, 120km of mostly un-crowded pistes consisting of 48 runs - 8 green, 12 blue, 17 red, 11 black, also a substantial and varied off-piste terrain, snow park, half pipe and boarder free ride area. There are nursery slopes both in the village and up at the 2 main stations. 2 speedy telecabines to get you up to the stations and 8 excellent mountain restaurants. Snow records have always been good in Les Contamines-Montjoie due to its north facing slopes which catch the first snow of the season combined with its snow cannon system makes it a snow sure resort from the week before Christmas right through until mid April.
There is something for everyone from the skiing itself to ski mountaineering, cross country skiing, off piste glacier skiing and snow shoeing to name only a few. There is plenty to occupy you if you wish to give your skiing legs a rest, from the nearby outdoor ice rink to beautiful Megeve and Chamonix with its spectacular views of Mont Blanc, only a short drive away. A quiet, traditional resort with breath taking scenery and lots to offer.
There is plenty to do in the summer - a fabulous leisure park (tennis, boating lake, rock-climbing, aerial routes through the trees), swimming in a heated lake, mountain biking and a wide variety of beautiful walks in the nature reserve which start in the village. Please see our Summer 2009 page.
This resort is particularly suited to families.
